leonardo-tmnt-classic-collection-2013
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection – Leonardo (2013 Re-release) (2013 Playmates Toys)

When Nickelodeon revived the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise around 2012–2013, Playmates seized the moment to release the Classic Collection — a line celebrated by adult collectors as a love letter to the original 1988 animated-series toy line. Leonardo, the blue-masked leader of the team, was a natural anchor piece for the wave, and community reviewers immediately set him side-by-side against the vintage original in detailed comparison videos. For collectors who grew up with the 1988 line, this release scratches a very specific nostalgic itch.

This figure is presented on its original carded blister packaging in vintage condition. The card front features the iconic TMNT animated-series artwork alongside the "Classic Collection — Originally Released in 1988" callout banner in the top-right corner and Assortment number #90900 printed prominently. Flip it over and you get the full Nickelodeon-branded card back, complete with a four-panel origin story comic strip, "About the Turtles" biographical text touting the show's #1 ratings run from 1987–1996, and a checklist of the six Classic Collection figures plus the Original 1988 Turtle Party Wagon vehicle. The orange accessories — twin katana on a weapons rack — are clearly visible and secured within the clear bubble.

The Classic Collection sits at an interesting crossroads for TMNT collectors: it captures the spirit of the vintage 1988 cardback format while bearing Nickelodeon's modern branding, making it a bridge piece between eras. Leonardo slots into a complete set alongside Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, Shredder, and Splinter — all represented on the card back checklist — giving it strong display value whether carded or as part of a full Classic Collection run.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0832/2596/8956/files/image_001_ce8f4488-0bfc-43f1-bba3-357aea5e6da0.jpg?v=1792174979
