Released in 2012 alongside the 3D theatrical re-release of Episode I, this Phantom Menace sub-wave figure earned widespread acclaim from the collecting community for its head sculpt likeness to Ian McDiarmid — widely called the best Sidious figure Hasbro had produced at the time and a marked improvement over the earlier Episode III Vintage Collection release (VC12).

The figure is presented on its original black retro-style Kenner-branded card with silver border, featuring Phantom Menace movie artwork of Sidious in hooded robes. A standout time-capsule detail is the on-card promotional sticker offering a chance to win a life-sized Darth Maul statue signed by George Lucas. The figure itself comes with both an ignited lightsaber and a deactivated lightsaber hilt, and this example remains vintage carded in its original bubble. The card back (VC79) displays the full 12-figure Phantom Menace wave, from Ratts Tyerell and Quinlan Vos to Darth Maul and Battle Droid, along with vehicle cross-sells.

The 2012 Phantom Menace assortment is regarded as one of the stronger character selections of that year's Vintage Collection run, and Sidious sits at the heart of it. This piece appeals equally to Episode I fans, Palpatine/Sidious character collectors, and those building a complete Vintage Collection carded display. The retro Kenner presentation — black card, silver border, classic logo treatment — makes it as visually striking on a shelf as it is historically significant within the line.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0832/2596/8956/files/image_001_28ad1c88-a6ed-459d-96bc-728ffcf9209d.jpg?v=1790817839
https://www.jaystoysandgames.com/products/star-wars-the-vintage-collection-the-phantom-menace-darth-sidious-vc79-hasbro-2012
