There and Back Again — A Week Before Everyone Else.
Magic: The Gathering is heading back to Middle-earth, and Jay's is opening the door first. The Hobbit Prerelease Weekend runs August 7–9 at both locations. Crack packs, build a deck on site, and play with the cards a full week before the August 14 street date.
Why This One Matters
Magic's 2023 trip to Middle-earth broke records and sold out everywhere. This is the follow-up, and it's built around one story: Bilbo, Thorin's company, and the dragon sitting on the mountain.
Every two-color pair gets its own hook in sealed. Recruit makes creature tokens while you draw. Amass grows an Army you can cash in at the right moment. Ferocious rewards going big. Storied cares about artifacts, legends, and Sagas. Landfall is back. And Adventures return, which is exactly the right mechanic for a set about one.
The collector side is stacked. Gleaming Gold Smaug the Magnificent is capped at roughly 500 copies worldwide. Book Cover cards frame mythics like novel jackets. Five mythics are printed transliterated into Dwarvish. Dragon Hoard frames, borderless Scene cards, and a 40-card Middle-earth Classic Artist box topper series bringing back mythics from the 2023 set.
Worth knowing: The One Ring, Orcish Bowmasters, Mox Amber and Andúril are reprinted in the Commander decks, not in the prerelease pool. Different product — ask us about preorders.

What to Expect at Prerelease
Every player gets a Prerelease Pack: six Play Boosters, a traditional foil promo card, a deck box, and a spindown die. You'll build a 40-card sealed deck on site out of what you open, add basic lands, and play rounds against everyone else in the room. Everything you open is yours to keep.
Never played Magic? Come anyway. Prerelease is the friendliest event on the calendar — half the room is figuring the set out in real time, and our staff will walk you through deckbuilding before round one. If you know who Smaug is, you're already most of the way there.
