It started with G.I. Joe figures in the ’80s. Garage sales, flea markets, the missing piece, the finished set. The argument with myself about whether to open it. If you collect, you know the feeling. It never left.

By 2005 the collection had taken over the garage. So I opened the store I would have lost my mind over as a kid: a small shop on the Southside of Des Moines where “mint” meant mint. It was scrappy, and it filled up with local collectors fast.

That is still the whole idea. The people here chase the same grails you do, dig through the same bins, and get just as loud when a fresh case hits the counter. It shapes what we buy, what we will put our name on, and how carefully every piece leaves the building. And the tournaments in our stores turn strangers into friends.

Today that is three stores, a warehouse, and more than sixty specialists across the shops and the online team. In store, we are Jay’s CD & Hobby. Online, we are Jay’s Toys & Games. Same people, same standards, one more way to reach us.

The buying counter has been open since day one. Single grails, whole collections, storage-unit hauls. Every one keeps fresh finds moving to the floor and keeps the hunt alive for the next person.
