The Grumman F-14 TOMCAT stands as one of aviation history's most iconic American carrier-based supersonic fighters. While the United States was its primary operator, Iran acquired seventy-nine Tomcats in 1976, several of which remain operational to this day. The aircraft was officially retired from U.S. Navy service on September 22, 2006.
