Marvel Legends Series – Tarantula (Spider-Man Retro Wave) (2023 Hasbro)
Tarantula is one of Spider-Man's more underrepresented villains in the Legends scale, making this 2023 Spider-Man Retro Collection release a genuine find for completionists and retro-presentation enthusiasts alike. Hasbro leaned hard into nostalgia here, packaging the figure on a purple cardback that faithfully echoes the beloved 1990s Spider-Man Animated Series toy line — right down to the bold "Marvel Comics / Spider-Man" logo treatment, webbing graphics, and neon cityscape background. It's the kind of shelf presence that resonates with collectors who grew up with those original Toy Biz releases.
This example is carded and presents well on the front, with the bubble seated firmly against the card and the orange comic-art character panel at lower left clearly legible. The card back (item no. 31541) carries Tarantula's bio — "A former revolutionary, Tarantula serves New York's criminal underworld as a robber and mercenary" — printed in five languages. The figure itself features the character's signature red-and-black costume with sculpted bladed boot tips, and ships without accessories or a Build-A-Figure piece, consistent with the retro single-pack format. Collectors familiar with the earlier Hasbro basic-line release from around 2008–2009 will note this is a distinctly different, retro-styled presentation.
