Duke is the cornerstone of the G.I. Joe A Real American Hero mythology — the First Sergeant whose Airborne Infantryman credentials and natural command authority made him the franchise's anchor character from day one. The 2020 Retro Collection was Hasbro's deliberate love letter to collectors who came of age with the original 1982–1994 line, launching alongside the 6-inch Classified Series and presenting 3.75-inch figures on black blister cards dressed in the iconic red, white, and blue stripe treatment with Larry Hama-style character art. Duke was a natural headliner for the debut wave, and early retail scarcity made carded examples genuinely hard to acquire at launch.
