Cosmic Legions Mortal Thorn Checklist — Every Figure in Book One

Four Horsemen closed their own direct preorder for Cosmic Legions: Mortal Thorn, Book One on August 2, 2026 at 11pm EDT, and the listings came straight down off StoreHorsemen.com. Retailer preorders opened the next morning. If you found out about this wave late and went looking for it on Four Horsemen's site, that's why you came up empty — the wave isn't cancelled, it just moved.

What's in Cosmic Legions: Mortal Thorn, Book One

Eleven pieces total. Eight are figures:

• Protectorate Guardian — $34.99, Legion Builder. Assault rifle and a pair of hands. This is the one carrying the new articulation.
• ACU-3 — $34.99, Legion Builder. Alternate skull head, eye attachment, grenade launcher, antennas, and swappable shoulder, thigh and shin armor.
• Brainer — $54.99. Two alternate heads, arm cannons, seven conduit tubes, two blast effects, a data terminal, antenna and cord.
• Zorrtexx — $54.99. Alternate head and alternate mouth, four pairs of hands, alien rifle, pistol with power cable, holster, chest plate, and two effect pieces.
• Kyojii Rune — $59.99. Three heads, five pairs of hands, four blades, two pistols, a back sheath and a soft goods cloak.
• Arch General Honora — $59.99. Two heads plus a hair attachment and helmet, three pairs of hands, rifle, two swords, twin blade attachments, wings, backpack and tubes.
• Dr. Zajjarii — $59.99. Two heads, four pairs of hands, mask, blaster, four tools, backpack, and a crawler vehicle with its own seat.
• Globulon Krunn — $129.99. Slime-claw hands, a pistol and a heavy melee weapon.

Then three add-ons: the Protectorate ACU Mission Character Pack and the Seek and Strike Mission Character Pack at $24.99 each, and the Set of 5 Heads Pack at $29.99.

One thing the name hides: this wave is both sides of the fight. The Mortal Thorn is a faction — a clandestine outfit that operates from the shadows under a figure called the Seeress — and Brainer and Kyojii Rune belong to it. But the Protectorate Guardian, ACU-3 and both Mission Packs are the security force hunting them. If you're buying to build a scene rather than to complete a checklist, that matters.

When do the Mortal Thorn figures come out?

Be careful with the dates floating around on this wave, because there's more junk than usual. Four Horsemen's own release status page says only that Mortal Thorn is "slated to ship in 2027." Their store listing said late 2027. The retailer estimates that went up when preorders opened converge on the third quarter of 2027, and so did the trade coverage. Meanwhile there are listings out there showing a December 31, 2027 date — that's an automated placeholder, not anything Four Horsemen said — and at least one syndicated post carrying a January 2025 date that is simply wrong.

We've set our estimated arrival to Q3 2027 because that's where the credible sourcing lands. Treat it as an estimate, not a street date — this is a company that tools everything from scratch, and Cosmic Legions waves have moved before. What we will do is tell you when it changes, from a person, rather than letting an automated delay email be the first you hear of it.

The September 3 deadline is the only real pressure here

Cosmic Legions is a preorder-to-order line. Four Horsemen don't produce a wave and let it sit in a warehouse waiting for demand — they manufacture against what retailers commit to, and our purchase order locks on September 3, 2026. After that we cannot add units. What we've committed to is all we will ever have of this wave, and when it's gone the next stop is the secondary market at secondary-market prices. The direct preorder is already closed, so this window is the one that's left.

That's the argument for reserving now, and it's the only pressure we'll apply, because there's genuinely no cost to you: we charge your card when your order ships, not when you place it, and you can cancel any time before then. Reserving a figure in August 2026 for a Q3 2027 arrival costs you nothing but the decision.

Every figure in the wave, and who it's actually for

Protectorate Guardian — $34.99

This is the most important figure in the wave and it's also the cheapest, which is an unusual combination. It debuts new double-jointed articulation for Cosmic Legions, and that's what the line's collectors have actually been discussing since the reveal — the r/MythicLegions thread about it pulled 93 upvotes, more than any other Cosmic post in months, against a reveal stream that drew 5,200 views.

The reaction is worth understanding because it's specific rather than generic enthusiasm. The complaint that has trailed this line for years is that the figures couldn't convincingly hold their own weapons, and the top-voted reply to the articulation reveal was a collector hoping they can now shoulder a rifle "and not look stupid." Another said flatly it should have been the standard all along. One collector said the articulation was the only thing that had been keeping him out of the line entirely.

It's an army builder with two accessories — a rifle and one pair of hands — so it is deliberately plain. That's the point of a Legion Builder, and it's why people buy them three and four at a time.

Verdict: Buy it first, and buy more than one if you have any intention of building a Protectorate squad. At $34.99 it's the cheapest way to find out whether the new joints deliver, and if they do you'll want the extras anyway.

Brainer — $54.99

Brainer is the first Mechroticon — a body kept in a state Four Horsemen describe as suspended between life and death by banned cybernetics, liberated by the Mortal Thorn and put to work as their data analyst. It is the most distinctive sculpt in the wave and it has the accessory count to match: two alternate heads, arm cannons, seven conduit tubes, two blast effects, a data terminal, antenna and cord.

It's also the piece pulling the most early preorder demand anywhere in the wave — ahead of the $129.99 centrepiece. That tracks with what collectors were asking for before this wave was announced: in a long critical thread about the line back in the spring, the request that kept surfacing was for cyborgs and droids. This wave answered that, and Brainer is the answer.

Verdict: The buy of the wave if you're taking one figure. Unique silhouette, deepest accessory kit under $60, and demonstrable demand behind it.

Globulon Krunn — $129.99

The big one, and the price tag deserves a straight conversation. At $129.99 it costs more than twice any other figure here, and it has the fewest accessories in the wave — slime-claw hands, a pistol and a heavy melee weapon. You are paying for mass and for sculpt, not for a bag of parts.

Whether that's worth it depends entirely on whether you want a centrepiece. Four Horsemen's oversized Cosmic figures have historically been the ones that hold value best, and Globulon Krunn is running second in early demand despite costing more than twice anything else here. That's a real signal — people are choosing it over cheaper figures, not defaulting to it.

Verdict: Buy if you want the shelf anchor and the number doesn't sting. Skip without guilt if you don't — nothing else in the wave depends on owning it.

Zorrtexx — $54.99

Zorrtexx has the most inventive parts breakdown here: not just an alternate head but an alternate mouth, plus four pairs of hands, an alien rifle, a pistol with a power cable, a holster, a chest plate and two effect pieces. That's ten-plus pieces at $54.99.

It's also the figure drawing the most affection for reasons that have nothing to do with Cosmic Legions lore. More than one collector clocked it immediately as a nod to Membros from the 1970s Micronauts line; one of them followed the observation with "SOLD." It's third in early preorder demand.

Verdict: Buy. Best accessory-to-price ratio in the wave, and the design does something the line has been accused of not doing — it looks like nothing else on the shelf.

Kyojii Rune — $59.99

The deepest kit in the wave on raw count: three heads (unmasked, gas mask, cybernetic skull), five pairs of hands, two standard Magmarri blades, two powered translucent versions, two pistols, a back sheath and a soft goods cloak. A Mortal Thorn operative, and one of the faction members Four Horsemen have actually written about.

Sentiment on it was warm rather than loud — "samurai dude is bitchin" was the register. It's tracking mid-pack in early demand, and we'd read that as the accessory count not being obvious from a package shot rather than as a verdict on the figure.

Verdict: Buy if you like getting the most parts for the money. This is the value pick of the $59.99 tier and we think it's currently underrated.

Arch General Honora — $59.99

The wave's commanding officer and its most elaborate build: two heads plus a separate hair attachment and a visored helmet, three pairs of hands, a rifle, a standard sword, a charged sword with a pink energy blade, twin blade attachments, wings, a backpack and tubes. If you want one figure that looks like it's in charge, it's this.

Honora also carries the wave's only real recurring criticism. A couple of collectors on r/MythicLegions raised head proportions on the new reveals — one asked for a 5% reduction, another said the heads keep getting bigger. It was two voices rather than a pile-on, and other collectors in the same thread said they'd buy the figure regardless, but it's a consistent enough complaint about this line that you should look closely at photos before committing if proportions bother you.

Verdict: Buy if the wings-and-swords loadout appeals — it's the most visually complete figure here. Look at a straight-on photo first if head scale is something you notice.

Dr. Zajjarii — $59.99

Dr. Thyxx Zajjarii comes with a crawler vehicle and a separate seat, which is the most unusual inclusion in the wave — a vehicle at a single-figure price. Plus two heads, four pairs of hands, a mask with tubes, a blaster, a set of four tools and a backpack.

Early demand on it is softer than we'd expect given what's in the box. Our read is that "figure with crawler" doesn't communicate in a listing title the way "giant slime monster" does.

Verdict: Buy if you're a diorama builder — the crawler does more for a display than another rifle would. Middle of the pack if you buy figures purely as figures.

ACU-3 — $34.99

The second Legion Builder, and the customizer's pick: an alternate skull-faced head, an eye attachment, a grenade launcher, antennas, and swappable shoulder, thigh and shin armor. Modular by design, meant to be bought in numbers and varied.

It's one of the slower movers so far, and we think that's real — it competes directly with the Protectorate Guardian at the same price, and the Guardian has the new articulation story attached to it.

Verdict: Buy after the Protectorate Guardian, not instead of it. Genuinely good army-builder value, but if you're only buying one $34.99 figure, buy the other one.

The two Mission Character Packs — $24.99 each

The Protectorate ACU Mission Character Pack is two alternate heads, three pairs of hands, a rifle, an equipment backpack, tubes and four modular tactical pouches. The Seek and Strike Mission Character Pack is a Guardian head with respirator detail, a comm antenna, a flight backpack, wings, a bazooka with bipod, and a ballistic shield.

These are the pieces that turn identical army builders into a squad where every member reads differently, and they were called out by name in the reveal comments as the reason the troop-building side of this wave works. Both are moving unusually well for accessory packs — ahead of several of the single figures.

Verdict: Buy alongside the builders, not on their own. A Seek and Strike pack turns a $34.99 Guardian into a jump-pack trooper with a bazooka for a total of sixty dollars, which is the best value equation in the wave.

Set of 5 Heads Pack — $29.99

Five alternate heads: Kyojii Rune, Zorrtexx, Dr. Zajjarii, Brainer and a Protectorate Guardian.

Here's the honest problem. It is the slowest mover of the eleven, and the reason isn't mysterious: four of the five heads only mean something if you already own the corresponding figure, and those figures each ship with two or three heads already. If you're not a customizer, you are paying $29.99 for parts you may never install.

Verdict: Skip it unless you kitbash. This is the one piece in the wave where we'd rather you kept the money — and if you're going all-in on the figures anyway, buy it last, once you've seen what you actually need.

What you can't get anymore: the "ALL IN" bundle

For completeness, because people will search for it: Four Horsemen sold an "ALL IN" Mortal Thorn, Book One bundle through StoreHorsemen.com — one each of all eight figures, both Mission Packs and the Heads Pack in a single order, at a direct-preorder discount Four Horsemen described as running between 15% and 30% off across the wave.

That bundle closed with the rest of the direct preorder on August 2, 2026 and has been removed from their store. There is no retailer equivalent — it was a direct-only offer, and no retailer, us included, can reconstruct it at that price. There are no store exclusives in this wave. Every piece listed on this page is available through the normal retail channel, which is not something you can say about most collector lines in 2026.

If you're only buying some of them

Ranked by what we'd actually reach for, weighing collector reaction against what's genuinely selling:

1. Brainer — the strongest early demand in the wave, and the most distinctive thing in it.
2. Protectorate Guardian — the new articulation, at the lowest price in the wave. Buy two.
3. Zorrtexx — best parts-per-dollar of the figures, and the design people keep bringing up unprompted.
4. Kyojii Rune — the underrated one. Most pieces in the box of anything under $60.
5. Globulon Krunn — only if you want the centrepiece, but it's holding second in early demand at $129.99, which tells you something.

Buying to build a squad rather than a shelf? Flip it entirely. Start with two Protectorate Guardians and one ACU-3, add both Mission Packs, and you have a differentiated four-figure Protectorate unit for around $155 — before you've bought a single named character. That's the cheapest interesting thing you can do with this wave, and it's what the extra packs exist for.

One thing worth flagging: the Protectorate Guardian is the figure collectors are talking about most, and it is not yet the figure they're ordering most. We read that as the articulation news not having filtered out to casual buyers yet. If you think it will, the Guardian is the one to be early on.

• Every unit is inspected on receipt before it goes in your box.

The one thing we can't do is add units after September 3, 2026. That's when our purchase order locks with Four Horsemen for this wave. It isn't a sales tactic, it's how this line is manufactured — and with the direct preorder already closed, it's the last scheduled opportunity to get Mortal Thorn at retail.
